BMW has teased the car community with a preview of the new hot 8-series, which is to be named the M8. The full concept is expected to be revealed at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.
Although the image itself is very shadowy and dark - showing only the top half outlines of the car - we already have a good idea of what the M8 will look like. The base 8-series was shown in spring last year; expect the M8 to look similar with more aggressive flairs on the bodywork.
Power will come from a twin-turbo 4.4l V8. With the latest M5 topping out at 592bhp, BMW will be wanting the M8 to sit above that, so expect a power figure of over 600bhp. Perhaps more importantly, this figure beats out the Mercedes S63 AMG Coupé, which pumps out 577bhp.
The new 8-series will act as a coupé version of the existing luxurious 7-series, which itself saw an upgrade last year. It comes after BMW didn't have a luxury coupé in its lineup (admittedly a bit of a niche segment), and let Mercedes dominate the market with its S-Class Coupé.
Like the old 8-series from the 90s, is this new M8 set to become an adored classic from within the car community? Only time will tell.
