Although Valentino points out that it’s difficult to understand where Yamaha stand just from testing, the Doctor is clear that himself and Yamaha “have to improve” as they “didn’t make much progress compared to last year”.
After finishing the Thailand test with the 12th fastest time of a 1:30.511 Valentino Rossi stays positive and implies he was capable of more.
Rossi said “I think we improved today. I rode a 1:30.5 but unfortunately, I made a mistake at the end of a really good lap, else I could have done a 1:30.2, and we’re all very close."
However, Valentino still says that him and the team have “a lot of work to do and at this moment” they have to get through it. “Maybe in Qatar it will be better” the Italian added.
Rossi’s team mate Maverick Viñales also stated that the Thailand test has been difficult. The Spaniard explained they “are working hard to figure out what the problem is – mostly in braking” but further added him and Yamaha must “improve in all areas”.
