In what is perhaps a world record-breaking 'least interesting internet leak ever', images of the new Peugeot 508 have surfaced online before its official reveal at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show.
You would be completely forgiven for forgetting that there is even such a thing as the Peugeot 508. Known for its peppy 108 and competitive SUV crossover lineup, Peugeot's 508 is something of a forgotten orphan from the French manufacturer.
Launched in 2011, it received middling reviews from journalists of the time, and since then has more or less faded into obscurity. It was never necessarily a bad car, but nothing about it stood out enough to compete against your bread 'n' butter Mondeo or Insignia.
It must've sold decently enough, though, since Peugeot has bought it back for a much-needed fresh model. And doesn't it look handsome? In this red colour at least, the design is sharp, different, and eye-catching. While the front does look like a person furrowing their eyebrows with the squashed headlights and grille, it is at least a bold and different design - something the current 508 desperately lacks.
The interior also makes a similar brash statement, and, to me at least, for the better. The digital heads-up style gauge cluster and chunky centre console design gives a distinctive cockpit vibe, and should continue to help the new 508 stand out a bit more.
Engines aren't expected to be quite as daring, but at the end of the day, Peugeot need this car to sell. The commended Blue HDi diesel engines will likely make a spotlight appearance, as well as the tried and tested 1.6l turbo petrol.
Styling aside, the more intricate details of the new 508 remain hidden for the time being. Expect all the ins and outs to be announced at Geneva - and for once its a modern Peugeot saloon that looks interesting enough to pay attention to...
