The first day of the official MotoGP test at the Chang International Circuit saw the Suzuki Ecstar Team at the top of timehsheets finding a “good feeling” ready for day 2.
Suzuki’s Alex Rins was the fastest factory rider of the test and set the second fastest time only 0.012 seconds behind Cal Crutchlow’s 1:30.797. Rins completed 70 laps around the Thailand circuit finding a “comfortable feeling” at the new addition to the MotoGP calendar.
Rins stated that the key to the successful day completed was his ability to quickly enjoy and understand the circuit. He stated himself and Suzuki “didn’t try many new things” and were “focused on the set up of the bike” for the new challenges Thailand had to offer, trying new things will be left for day 2 of the test.
Fellow Suzuki man Andrea Lannone was not far off on worn rubber, setting a time of 1:31.235, only 0.4 away from his teammate. The Italian rider put in the work completing 78 laps in 35 degrees celsius, putting in a consistent pace “even on a used a tyre”.
Team Manager Davide Brivio was positive about the day, stating that “to see Alex so close to the top and Andrea, even with the old tyre, keeping a good pace is nice. But it’s important to focus on testing everything properly and creating our best package”.
